PPSSPP (PlayStation Portable Simulator Suitable for Playing Portability) is a PSP emulator which can open game files. It is available for several platforms including Android which can be found in the Play Store.

  • If you run Windows 7 Home Premium, try VirtualBox (www.virtualbox.org) or VMware Player (www.vmware.com) or any other 3rd party virtualization software and install a separate copy of Windows XP (either Home Edition or Professional) for that purpose. You can find virtualization software free of charge that will run on Windows 7 Home Premium.
  • Yes, here are some resources gathered by JW Stewart: Running Windows XP Mode requires: 1) Windows 7 - Professional, Ultimate or Enterprise (Not supported in Home Premium).
  • Windows XP Media Center to Windows 7 Home Premium, and, Windows XP Professional to Windows 7 Professional. And of course, if you require the BitLocker whole-disk encryption functionality, simply upgrade to Ultimate Edition from any previous version of XP.
  • Windows XP Mode in Windows 7 lets you run older software that was designed for Windows XP. Windows XP Mode was designed specifically to run the kind of custom software that many small businesses use to maintain customer records. Once Windows XP Mode is installed on your Windows 7 computer, you can install your older software and run it.

The application features a modern and straightforward interface which provides you access to a file browser to search for games on your system or connected mass storage media. It can open PSP ISO files without much issue.

PPSSPP also provides access to a store which includes free PSP game demos which it can download and then emulate. Also inside the store are homebrew games and applications which can be downloaded and emulated on a Windows system.

The support for PSP ROM files isn't necessarily universal and it can currently load around 800 different games while a smaller number still remain unplayable.

PPSSPP features several different settings which can be configured: Audio, Graphics, System, Controls and Developer are all self-explanatory. Quick access to other options are available from the 'Options' menu in the top menu bar.

In the end, PPSSPP is a very good PlayStation Portable emulator which has a ton of features and options for optimal gaming.

MAME can currently emulate over 3000 unique (and over 5400 in total) classic arcade video games from the three decades of video games - '70s, '80s and '90s, and even some from the current millennium.

The ROM images that MAME utilizes are 'dumped' from arcade games' original circuit-board ROM chips.
